The KD-ACT
series of actuators are programmable devices that can be used in a
variety of applications. When used with our electronic
controller,
this actuator can be commanded to any desired rotational position: 0 to
180 degrees. Onboard
drive electronics perform automatic position verification and error
correction.
Each actuator is fitted with a removable nylon control
arm. For linear
actuation,
use with a wire linkage (not included). Includes
threaded standoffs for convenient mounting.
The rotating
control arm has locator holes at pre-set distances which accept a wire
linkage. The locator holes allow the arm's effective length to be
easily adjusted. (Note that effective lengh also effects the
resulting
applied force. See the force table
for
details.)
The smart actuator is available in larger sizes for
increased
torque. How
much force can the ACT10 deliver? It all depends on the effective
length of the control arm as shown in the table below. When using
a wire linkage, you can obtain more force by simply adjusting the
linkage
to a closer locater hole in the control arm, thereby shortening the
effective
length.

Given
the table values above, you can see that an effective arm length of 1
cm
yields a max. force of 0.8kg (1.8lb). Adjusting the linkage
for a longer effective length yields a lower maximum force, while
adjusting
for a shorter length translates to a higher maximum force.
You
might be wondering how much arm travel the actuator can produce.
For rotary applications, the arm can rotate up to 180 degrees.
For
linear applications, the maximum distance will depend on the effective
length of the control arm as described previously. The following
table defines maximum linear arm travel distances for several effective
arm lengths. These linear distances define how much linear travel
distance can be produced by the actuator when using a wire linkage.

(Travel
distances based on max. arm rotation of 180 degrees.)
As
shown in the table, an effective arm length of 1cm produces a linear
travel
distance of over 6 cm when rotated 180 degrees and using a linkage.
Electronic
Controller
Actuators requires a special pulse
width modulated (PWM) control signal to operate. The system
includes a digital electronic controller that automatically generates
these
signals. Measuring
only 2.5" x 3.75", the controller accepts an activation trigger that
commands the actuator to a pre-determined rotational
position.
The
controller can be customized to accept just about any trigger input
signal that you may desire including the following:
- TTL (0
to 5vdc)
- Pushbutton
/ toggle switch
- RF
wireless remote (keyfob, etc.)
- etc.
The servo actuator includes our stock controller
or a customized controller to meet your requirements.
Our stock
controller accepts a standard switch input. When switch contacts
are closed, the actuator
rotates 90/180 degrees. When deactivated, the actuator returns to
the starting point. Here is a summary of controller features:
- Customizable
for any application
- Small
size (measures 2.5" x 3.75")
For those with
specific needs,
we can customize the controller to suit your requirements.
Wireless RF
Option
We
also offer a controller option with wireless remote control. The
wireless system features actuator, keyfob transmitter, and electronic
controller with embedded RF receiver.
