The
Kiosk Access System (KAS) is a touch-screen based system designed for
payment or credential controlled access to a resource, machine, room,
or area. Employing a distributed processing design which includes
the use of remote terminal units (RTUs), the KAS is well-suited for
remotely monitoring and controlling access to a any type of machine,
device, or resource. Ideal for airports, hotels, shopping malls,
mail facilities, locker rooms, movie
theatres, and other high traffic venues, the KAS can be customized for
a wide range of uses. The KAS is composed of the following
elements:
- LCD touch screen
- Windows software
- Credit card reader (optional)
- Keypad remote terminal units (RTUs)
- Electronic hardware (locks, door switches, motion detectors)
- Cabling
Operation is simple: the patron uses the touch-screen to
define the transaction and/or select the desired resource. He
presents a credential such as ID card or bank credit card. Once
validated, KAS activates or unlocks the resource as required. The
patron is granted access to the available resource which could be any
of the following:
- Phone booth
- Secure room
- Restroom stall
- Shower area
- Video game room
- Internet cafe
- Keyless mailboxes and lockers
- Machinery
- Equipment
The KAS touch screen can employ an integrated card reader
for POS payment purposes. Or, it can be used with a variety of ID
cards for user validation situations.
