Description
The
KD-RTU6x00 Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is a low-cost terminal that
features
keypad, LCD display, RS-232, RS-485 (KD-RTU6600), Ethernet
(KD-RTU6700),
and your selection of optional reader: magstripe, barcode, and/or
proximity
reader.
The
RTU functions as a remote terminal that is under the complete control
of
a host PC or other computer device and commnicates message text and
commands
in standard ASCII format via Ethernet, RS-485, or RS-232. It may
be used with a magstripe or RFID proximity card-reader. Card-data
and/or keypresses are automatically transmitted to any host PC or
computer
device. Pre-formatted ASCII data received from the host will be
displayed
on the LCD.
The
heart of the system is a Rabbit
Semiconductor OP6700
programmable terminal
with 4x20 line LCD display, 12-key membrane keypad with relegendable
keys.
Rabbit
Semiconductor is
a renowned manufacturer of high-quality, affordable single-board
computers
and related products.

The
RTU offers features found in the higher end products, but at a fraction
of the cost. How do we do it? The answer is simple - no
overhead.
You save big $$$ by purchasing the terminal unit(s) directly from the
supplier.
Some assembly may be required depending on the hardware configuration
desired.
For instance, a keypad-access configuration with no card-readers will
require
almost no assembly and will be the most economical. Or, you may
choose
to add one or even two card-readers. Once you've assembled the
unit,
we provide firmware programming for a nominal fee.
The
RTU features a number of access options including barcode reader,
proximity
reader, and magstripe reader. If desired, card-readers may be
excluded,
allowing the system to be used in keypad-access mode - the most
economical
solution.
The
RTU also accepts special host commands. These commands perform
functions
such as terminal configuration and setup. The RTU can also accept
a command to activate or deactivate its onboard output driver.
Suitable
for controlling a small external relay, this output can be used in a
variety
of applications including gate activation, process control, alarm
activation,
etc. The open-collector output can sink up to 40VDC @ 200mA.
Optional
host application software provides access to the RTU from your Windows
PC. Great for monitoring and/or testing. Send
pre-constructed
messages to the terminal and receive terminal responses. Includes
auto-detect feature and firmware upgrade utility.
The
system is customizable to suit your needs.
